BESS Field Service Engineer

Role Overview:The BESS Field Service Engineer will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, warranty repairs, and commissioning activities on energy storage systems across various Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sites. Reporting directly to the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Manager, this position plays a critical role in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of energy storage systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular inspections and maintenance to uphold Energy Storage Systems to the highest standard, including annual capacity tests, troubleshooting, and reactive maintenance.
• Perform system software and firmware updates.
• Monitor operational performance and conduct data assessments.
• Provide phone support and remote diagnostics for customer systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues at BESS sites.
• Manage inventory of spare parts effectively.
• Ensure adherence to local safety regulations and standards, including conducting risk assessments and implementing necessary safety measures.
• Maintain administrative records, such as timesheets, vehicle checks, and daily service logs detailing issues and resolutions.
• Support in-house system engineering teams with product development and project work.
• Offer feedback and suggestions based on field experience to enhance products and processes.

Essential Requirements:

• Qualifications in electrical or electro-mechanical disciplines.
• Prior experience in electrical or multi-skilled maintenance.
• Proficiency in basic IT applications, including MS Word, Outlook, and Excel, and familiarity with software for troubleshooting.
• Certification or qualifications in on-site safety practices.
• Flexibility to travel to various sites, including overnight or international trips when necessary.

Preferred Experience (Not Essential):

• Hands-on experience with BESS systems.
• Familiarity with HV/LV power electronics, including inverters, converters, and transformers.
• Previous training in HVAC systems and possession of F-Gas certification.
• Advanced IT knowledge, including networking, remote desktop protocols, and MODBUS/TCP protocols.
• Certifications such as C&G2391-5 Test & Inspect or equivalent.
• Familiarity with BS7671 standards.
• HV Authorized Person certification.
